Chapter 35 - Update...

I started my new job and it’s going well so far. I work out of three different workplaces each week - Southport, Nerang and Palm Beach. I have a laptop and off I go… The company I work for rent rooms from medical centres and employment agencies at these locations and that’s where my clients come for their counselling sessions. It is a very autonomous and independent job - I am very much on my own and don’t really see any fellow colleagues (as they work at these locations but on different days). Even my supervisor is based on the Sunshine Coast (over 2 hours away). Although the autonomy is nice, I think I will miss the social aspect of sharing an office with other people and I'll miss feeling like part of a team, which I always enjoy in a work environment. The work side of things is going to be challenging too but I'm looking forward to seeing how it all goes…

Last week the Gold Coast hosted the Lexmark Indy 300 (for the 17th time). The 4 day event is where the streets of Surfers Paradise are transformed into a race track for Champ Cars and V8s. The Gold Coast really comes alive and it’s a fantastic atmosphere with a lot of off track entertainment and partying as well! My parents live in Surfers, on the 30th floor of a building that overlooks the track. So every year, there are a bunch of us that spend most of the weekend at their place, soaking up the atmosphere. Birna’s brother Freyr, his partner Hildur, and their adorable son Hrannar, came this year to check it out. It was so lovely to see them and I was really happy to spend time with them. Check out some more Indy pics…

Right now, Birna is recovering from her 4th knee operation. It’s times like these that are especially hard being on the other side of the world – when I know she is in pain and not feeling great and I’m not there to support her. The distance has been challenging and hard on both of us but the light is at the end of the tunnel now… only 35 days until Birna arrives in Oz… and I’m sure the time will fly by. When we do see each other again, we will hopefully find a solution, or at least become clearer, about our future plans and ‘where to from here.’ There are lots of big decisions up ahead. While sometimes I get caught up in the challenges and obstacles of it all, I try to focus on seeing it from a different perspective… I try to remember that there are no obstacles… only choices, opportunities and possibilities. “Every life comes with a great story, and the possibility for a great adventure. It is only in adventure that some people succeed in truly knowing themselves.”
