"The Hand"
Before I left Australia, two of my good friends Bec and Annette, gave me a “going away present.” They wrapped it and told me I was not allowed to open it until I got to Iceland. I was very excited as I love surprises but patiently waited until I got to Iceland to open it. I laughed so hard when I saw what they had given me… It was a porcelain hand that had been given to Annette two years earlier as a Christmas present by our boss at the time. The porcelain hand is supposed to be used to put rings and jewelry on when you are not wearing them. It was the strangest gift we had ever seen though… most unattractive and rather useless to be honest. We have had many good laughs about that present over the years! And so my lovely friends, in their infinite kindness and thoughtfulness, wanted to impart this special gift onto me… and they sent it with me to Iceland, wrapped neatly under the guise of a “going away present.”
So I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Bec and Annette for this very special gift and want to assure them that I will take good care of “The Hand.” I have taken The Hand under my wing, we have bonded and we are now very special friends. Birna and I recently went away for a few days to Snæfellsnes and although it was supposed to be a romantic little get-away, we selflessly took The Hand along with us and showed her the sights. The Hand has told me she is very keen to explore Iceland and so below are some pictures of The Hand´s adventures in Iceland (to date)….
This is The Hand on our road trip - She was very excited and wanted to sit right up the front... and she insisted on waving at everyone we drove past!
We had a disagreement along the way about what music to listen to… The Hand became very upset and refused to drive in our car, so she hitch-hiked the rest of the way…
The Hand exploring Iceland´s breath-taking scenery…
The Hand meeting the locals…
Having a joke with another one of the locals…
And you´d never guess who we bumped into Downtown Reykjavik... The Hand´s distant Viking relatives!! What a small world it is!
Here are more pictures from The Hand´s adventures in Iceland… Stay tuned for more to come...!
