World First

It’s all official... The Social Democratic Alliance, in coalition with the Left-Green Movement, and with backing from the Progressive Party, have formed the new interim government. They will govern the nation until new elections are held on 25th April.

Johanna Sigurdardottir has been named the interim Prime Minister - she is the world’s first openly gay Prime Minister and the first female PM in Iceland’s history. She is one of the most highly regarded and trusted politicians here. Right now, the people need a leader like her – someone they can look up to. They need to have their faith, confidence and trust restored, especially after the trail of destruction left by Iceland’s former leaders.

Iceland also made headlines around the world in 1980, when the nation elected Vigdis Finnbogadottir to the office of President – the world’s first democratically elected female Head of State. She was also a very popular and trusted figure, serving for 16 years before retiring.

Let’s face it... Women do it better!
