Chapter 3 - Iri for P.M.
I´ve come to the conclusion that Icelandic people must all have ADD.... Because when you go to the movies here... they have a 10-15 minute intermission in the middle of the movie! Can´t people sit still for less than two hours? What´s that all about? And it´s pretty funny because they kind of just press ´stop´ in middle of a scene and turn the lights on... It´s not like when you see a movie on TV and they seem to schedule the ads in the right place. I never did understand the whole intermission thing as it kind of spoils the momentum... although pretty smart really as I´m sure it significantly increases sales in the candy bar... and it´s also good for those people with bladder control problems I guess... so a win win all round!
The other thing that makes me wonder if Icelanders have ADD is that they are always busy doing something! They commit to so many different things and never seem to rest for a moment! That´s very admirable though - they seem to work hard and play hard. Maybe us laid back Aussie bums could learn something...?
Oh and whilst I remember... I have since been corrected on the population I quoted in my first chapter... There are actually 190,000 people living in the capital, Reykjavik, which is just over 60% of the country´s population... Thanks Arni for keeping me on my toes! And in case you were wondering... yes they have traffic lights here and yes they even have ´peak hour´ traffic. There are also a few McDonald´s restaurants in case you were wondering (although there´s probably a McDonald´s on the moon too)... but I´m told its not really ´fast food´ as it´s expensive and not fast (and some may even question whether it´s food).
So anyway... I´ve been thinking about Australia´s water crisis... and I´ve come up with a plan which I think Premier Peter Beattie would be interested in. Instead of a water grid / pipeline that connects all of South East QLD, wouldn´t it be better if he considered a pipeline from QLD to Iceland? I mean come on Pete... It´s time to think outside the square! And that´s not the only bright idea I have... Pete could also arrange a trade agreement between QLD and Iceland which would ensure Iceland exchanges water (which is plentiful here) for QLD´s sunshine. They don´t call me ´an ideas woman´ for nothing you know... I´m not just a pretty face! And I know I know what you´re all going to say... but I´m one step ahead of you and am already thinking of running for Parliament, so thank you all for your support and please vote one... Iri Gonads! Look out Johnny Howard – I´m coming after your job next! ...And gay marriage WILL be on the agenda!
