Chapter 18 - Update...

Well the last week has been very hectic as we moved into the new apartment. It´s very exciting and the new place is really great! Now the fun part begins... Birna is buying lots of new things for the new place... so I get to tag along and help her spend all her money! We have already ticked off the list a flat screen TV, computer desk, book shelves and dishwasher. Next on the list is a new living and dining room. Fun, fun!

My back has settled down again. It seems that all my back muscles went into a spasm - most likely as a result of my lower back problems. I got some physio which really helped and I feel better again. I guess I´m just going to have to accept though that I won´t be doing any back flips or summersaults any time soon (there goes my gymnastics career and Olympic dream!) I guess my soccer days are over too. Maybe the safest thing is to take up chess or just watch the grass grow!

Everything else is good. I´m back at work again and enjoying that. It´s not exactly a career move but hey, I´m on a vacation and here to have fun! It´s nice meeting and chatting to people from all over the world.

Hope all is well down under! I´m really looking forward to seeing you all again! xx

Excellent blog.

I have a back problem similar to yours, well a bit worse actually. I've found the most useful thing is to do lots of abdominal curls and get my stomach muscles as strong as possible to take the strain off my spine.

Five minutes a day doing curls (not sit ups!) makes a big difference. Your back may never actually get better, it's a case of living with it, rather than waiting for it to heal.

Walking an hour a day keeps you going too. Avoid lifting anything of course, and bend and use your legs when you have to lift stuff anyway, but remember your back can get a lot worse. If you slip a disc and end up with sciatica you'll think your current discomfort a picnic.

Your back spasm is because you're holding your muscles tight to protect the injury in your lower back. Again, doing lots of curls will strengthen your back so that shouldn't happen again.

Hope this is of some help. Great blog. You seem to have an ideal life, enjoy it. If the back is the worst thing that happens to you then you're still one of the luckiest people in the world!
