Chapter 25 - Just a quickie...

Just a quick blog...
As we were preparing for our big trip, Birna was checking the roads and weather conditions etc. She stumbled upon the meteorology information for Iceland and it was so interesting. Yes I knew that Iceland had active volcanoes and earthquakes and stuff as it lies on the boundary of the North Atlantic and the Eurasia tectonic plates, but I guess I didn´t quite grasp how full on it was! Check out the graph below... it notes all the earthquakes that have happened in the country over the last few days - in the last 48 hours there were between 40 and 50 of them! Isn´t that amazing??!!! Yes most are quite small (except for the 3.5 one up north off the coast) but it still shocked me! The last biggest earthquake here was in 2000 - it was 6.7 and was the biggest earthquake in the world that year. Big earthquakes like this can be expected every 10-15 years... so no need to worry mum - I´m not in the ´danger zone´ just yet!
