Summer... Going, Going, Gone...

Well it’s nearly mid August… the summer is almost behind us and it’ll be time to pull out the winter woollies (and flashlight) soon. But it has been a good summer. Every day that it’s been sunny and warm, Birna says “why don’t you put that on your blog!” Hmmm, I guess I won’t hear her say that over the next 10 months, so I better write it in my blog now. Last week it was 26 degrees in Reykjavik – the first time since 1990. It was the biggest news of the week – in all the papers and on the news, not that I understood a word of it, but that’s what it looked like from all the pretty pictures.

I do like the Icelandic sun though cos it’s not as strong as the one in Oz (yes there are two suns – one in the northern hemisphere and one in the southern). In Iceland, I can lay out in the sun for a few hours (on a nice day and out of the wind that is) and get a nice little brown glow. In Oz however, my skin goes from ghost white to lobster red when I simply walk from the house to the car, and then my freckles just kind of blend into one big freckle. Hmmmm, very nice!
